Ian Holm playing bilbo is looking less and less. given the lack of films he has been doing I really cant see him playing something as big as bilbo in the hobbit. Production starts 2008 apparently but id see 2009

nah there where several reason why it couldnt have been mad straight away. They filmed them back to back and really didnt know how successful it would be till the first one was released. Once it was then the EE dvds. So first film released, effects where being fine touched for the second and then dvds done.So on and so forth.
There where so many legal issues that peter just went on to make king kong and now, even if he does get to direct The Hobbit and also the LOTR prequal.....he is still going to be making The Lovely Bones first.
So many complications.....but lets face it. The Hobbit was the first book I ever read. Its more loved with kids than LOTR......and after the amazing trilogy the expectations are going to be so high and no director can deliever and meet the epectations other than PJ.

But film execs are RUTHLESS and I wouldnt put it passed new line to rush into production.

it isnt going to happen with ian thats for sure. I just hope they take their time and not rush in for the quick bucks.

they might get ian involved in the sequal but i cant see him taking on two lengthy productions at his age. We have seen the pics from recent premiers.....he isnt himself.

Ian will not be bilbo, it will end him if he does.

Granted he is bilbo and always will be and the poor sod who is casted will have to live up to ians amazingness but if ian takes it on it will end him.

After the cancer he started taking less work and the hobbit and its sequel I can see taking up to a year to do in terms of production and at 78 thats a lot to take on.

I would love to see Ian as Bilbo but for health reasons I hope he doesnt take it on. WHAT I WOULD like to see is the narrative being read almost like a book, as in Ian is sitting there with a pipe in bag end writting the book and narrative and voice overing the film.Gives him screen time atleast.

If you have read the hobbit you willl know there is a lot of walking and acting etc.......and given the dwarfs there wont be that much need for doubles. The sequel I can see being more of an explaination to the LOTR world, giving it more life and reality.

with peter jackson just producing the attraction for ian to return to another director would be low.
